We Work Together

Like most Presbyterian churches our core church is made of three groups: Pastor, Session, and friends/members of the church. We have over 100 registered members and several others who are regular friends.

As of October 1, 2011 we have a new pastor, the The Rev. David Williams. He grew up in the DC suburbs, and is both a DC area townie and a cradle Presbyterian.  He attended the University of Virginia for Undergrad in Religious Studies, and got his M.Div from Wesley Theological Seminary, where he’s currently working on his D.Min.  He worked for 10 years at the Aspen Institute, and for the last eight years had been serving as the Designated Pastor at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Bethesda.  He’s been married for not-quite-twenty years to his wife Rachel.  They have two sons: Samuel (13) and Elijah (11).   He likes puttering around on his motorcycle, frittering away time on his PS3, and reading pretty much anything he can get his hands on.  He plays a mean game of ping pong, likes bicycling, and is just good enough at tennis not to completely embarrass himself.  He enjoys writing, and blogs at www.belovedspear.org.  To view a list of all of our pastors since our church opened in 1847 click here.

Our church leaders are elected by the congregation for a 3-year term as elders, and are referred to as the Session. The following individuals currently serve on Session, and have these areas of responsibility:

  • Alicia Burton ... Buildings & Grounds
  • Lisa Roberts ... Worship & the Arts
  • Susan Hanna ... Christian Education
  • Alexander Rai ... Mission
  • Alicia Thomas ... Fellowship & Congregational Care
  • Ken Koeser ... Budget & Stewardship
  • Jerome Hobart ... Evangelism
  • Bill Mattes ... Connection
