Connection Café

a ministry of hospitality connecting people to the internet, to each other, and to God

Café guests will be people who:

~ need access to computers or help with computer technology

~ would appreciate a community to use WiFi and drink coffee

~ want to be in cyberspace within a safe and welcoming environment

What’s Happening

We are busy finishing walls, choosing paint colors and finding furniture. Doing all of this with virtually zero budget is challenging.

We intend to hire a Café Host for 8 hours/wk (Wednesdays).

The following people have moved into key volunteer positions:

  • Food & Beverage (Alicia Thomas)
  • Genealogy Coordinator (Dick Hanna)
  • Workshop Coordinator (Greg McFall)
  • Music Coordinator (Brian Gross)
  • Game Coordinator (Taylor Handleton)
  • Art Coordinator (Julie Halstead)
  • Grand Opening Coordinator (Ross Koeser)

The tentative schedule is:

Sunday           café used by high school Sunday School class

Monday           6:30-8:30 pm   weekly Genealogy Night

Tuesday           café closed (AA)

Wednesday      2:00-9:00 pm   weekly general/homework

6:30-8:30 pm   monthly Tech Workshop on 2nd Wed.

Thursday           café closed (PPC choir)

Friday              9:30-11:30 pm   monthly Tournament on 4th Fri.

Saturday           8:00-10:00 pm   monthly Music Night on 1st Sat.

How You Can Help:

Pray.

For the café in general, for each of the volunteers, and that we find the right Café Host to hire.

Find Furniture.

We need free or inexpensive: comfy but small-scale chairs, stools, small round tables, chest-high bar tables, a large area rug.

Attend the Paint Party.

In July we’ll be doing a whole lot of painting in Speer Hall: the big room, the café itself, the hall, the new nursery.

Even if you’re not skilled, you can assist those who are.

Make a Donation.

We are stretching each dollar until it squeaks. A donation of $100 will go a long way. Make a check out to the church and put in the memo line: Connection Café.   Thank you!

Support the Volunteers.

The people who have stepped forward are listed above. They would appreciate your encouragement, thoughts, resources, prayers.

Pray about becoming a Volunteer Café Host.

There will be three training sessions on Sundays from 1:00-2:30.  The dates are Aug 29, Sept 12, and Sept 26.  You'll learn to:

  1. Work as a team to create an atmosphere of hospitality in the cafe.
  2. Build relationships with café guests, allowing room for the movement of the Holy Spirit.
  3. Keep eyes, ears and hearts open for ministry opportunities.
  4. Uphold the church’s Child Protection Policy and exercise cybersafety.

We hope to see you soon at the Connection Cafe!  Meanwhile, if you have any comments, click on Blog, and find an entry labeled "Connection Cafe" where you can leave your thoughts.
